WHY BAYOU

The name is the method.

Every company name is a claim. This page explains ours — where the name comes from, and the way of working folded inside it.

BY UNDERSTANDING FIRST

Every business is a different animal. A hotel and a railroad both earn money, and almost nothing else about them is the same. So the work here begins with understanding — what a business actually sells, who actually pays, what would have to be true for it to still be standing in twenty years — and only then moves. Understanding is slow, it does not scale, and it is done one business at a time. That is the constraint, and we have organised around it rather than against it.

THE WATER

Houston is the Bayou City — a place drawn by slow water: Buffalo, Brays, White Oak. A bayou is the earth’s own work, older than any skyline, and standing beside one restores proportion: the horizon is long, and we are small. Where some see a swamp, we see what a bayou truly is — water giving life in every direction, patient and vibrant at once. The name also keeps an old convention of the craft: take something the earth made, and let it stand for how you work.

THE METHOD

Deconstructing a business, one qubit at a time.

Take the two ends of that sentence. A universe is the largest thing there is — for a company, it is everything it carries: what it sells, who it depends on, what it owes, and why anyone buys. A qubit is the smallest carrier of an answer physics allows — the basic unit of quantum information. An ordinary bit must be one or zero; a qubit holds both possibilities at once until the moment it is measured. People work the same way. Yesterday’s no can be today’s yes, and which answer appears depends on when — and how honestly — you ask.

So the method is patient. Deconstruction means understanding a thing down to its foundations, then rebuilding your picture of it from parts you truly understand. Taken whole, the task is impossible — and that is the point. It keeps the work humble and the attention permanent. One qubit at a time.

FIT, BEFORE ANYTHING

Whether a business fits — this price, this decade, this balance sheet — depends on what it actually is. Judging that fit honestly is the competence this company practices first.
